Nollywood actor and reality TV star, Saga Adeolu, has spoken candidly about the realities of filming romantic and intimate scenes, revealing that on-screen kissing is often uncomfortable and far from enjoyable for actors.
Saga made this known during a recent episode of the Nolly Icons Podcast, where he discussed misconceptions audiences have about romantic scenes in films.
According to him, many viewers assume actors enjoy kissing scenes, but the experience is usually awkward and strictly professional.
“It is not easy to kiss another actor. It is weird. I have not really had any good onscreen kisses. It is weird having people invade your mouth with saliva,” he said.
He explained that such scenes are performed purely as part of storytelling and not for personal enjoyment.
“It is not something we enjoy. People think we enjoy it, but we don’t. We are just doing it for the story most times,” he added.
Saga further revealed that he has had multiple experiences filming kissing scenes, including one instance where he had to kiss four different actresses on set in a single production.
“If I had my way, I won’t kiss anyone in a film. There was a day I kissed four different girls on set,” he said.
Despite his experience in romantic roles, the actor maintained that he has never had a “pleasant” on-screen kissing experience, stressing that it often feels mechanical and uncomfortable rather than enjoyable.
He also called for greater understanding from audiences, noting that actors should be appreciated for their professionalism in executing such demanding roles rather than being judged based on on-screen actions.
