Nigerian media personality and veteran broadcaster IK Osakioduwa has explained why he did not host the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), revealing that the decision was guided by his personal principles rather than any disagreement with the organisers.
Speaking during an appearance on The Morayo Show, Osakioduwa addressed speculation surrounding his absence from the prestigious awards ceremony, marking the first time he has not hosted the event since its inception in 2013.
According to him, his relationship with Africa Magic remains cordial and unchanged, stressing that there was no conflict between both parties.
“This year, I wasn’t destined to host this year. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time they sent you to be,” he said.
The broadcaster described Africa Magic as his “first love” in television, noting that the network continues to hold a special place in his career.
“Africa Magic will always be my first love when it comes to media. At least with TV, we are in love with each other, they love me and I love them. So, there was no problem there,” he added.
Osakioduwa, however, disclosed that certain sponsorship affiliations connected to the 2026 edition of the AMVCA conflicted with his personal beliefs.
“I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition,” he said.
“I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands. So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition.
“I won’t have effectively delivered what they needed.”
He explained that accepting the hosting role under such circumstances would have prevented him from fully meeting the expectations of the organisers and sponsors, prompting him to step aside.
The respected media figure maintained that his decision was based solely on conviction and professionalism, emphasizing that he chose not to participate because he could not wholeheartedly represent every aspect of the event.
For the 2026 edition of the AMVCA, organisers appointed comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as hosts.
