U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran shot down a U.S. military Apache helicopter during a patrol mission over the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post shared on his Truth Social account, Trump alleged that the incident occurred overnight while the aircraft was conducting operations over the strategic waterway.
He said the helicopter was “highly sophisticated” and confirmed that two pilots were onboard at the time.
Trump stated,“I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
He added that both pilots involved in the incident are safe and uninjured.
Trump further stated that the United States “must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” signalling a possible escalation in tensions.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most sensitive maritime routes, handling a significant portion of global oil shipments and frequently serving as a flashpoint for U.S.–Iran tensions.
At the time of filing this report, there has been no independent confirmation from the U.S. Department of Defense or Iranian authorities regarding the claim, and details surrounding the incident remain unclear.
