The wife of late Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo, Anwuli Ekubo-Okwareke, has broken her silence following his passing, sharing a deeply emotional account of their love, faith, and life together.
Her heartfelt tribute was published in the actor’s funeral pamphlet and later shared by Colors NG on Instagram, during his burial ceremonies held in Abia State between June 17 and June 18, 2026.
In the tribute, she described the late actor as her “sunshine” and “answered prayer,” recalling the depth of their bond and the emotional support he provided during difficult moments in her life.
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,” she wrote, explaining that a childhood song they both knew became a defining symbol of their relationship and marriage.
She also reflected on how Ekubo stood by her during the loss of her mother, describing him as a pillar of strength.
“When my mother passed a year ago, you were my anchor. You held me together during a season where everything felt heavy,” she said.
Anwuli admitted that coping with his absence has been extremely difficult, noting that she still finds herself longing for his presence in everyday moments.
“I find myself reaching for you in a hundred different ways each day, only to remember I cannot,” she wrote, adding that she misses hearing his affectionate calls to her.
She also recounted the affectionate names they shared within their relationship, including “Pookie,” “Pookstar,” “Asa,” and “Nwa,” which she said became deeply tied to their identity as a couple.
“The name somehow became home,” she wrote, describing how those names extended into her bond with his family, whom she said welcomed her warmly.
The tribute further highlighted their private jokes, especially their conversations in Igbo, which she described as a unique language of love filled with humour and intimacy.
She also praised Ekubo’s thoughtful nature, saying he expressed love through small but meaningful gestures, including handwritten notes he left around their home.
“I treasure the notes you left for me around the house… little messages from my Dadaa to his Nwa,” she wrote.
According to her, their marriage was deeply rooted in faith and prayer, which she said helped strengthen their relationship and spiritual journey.
“Our marriage was in so many ways a faith journey. We prayed together, trusted God and His promises together,” she said.
She concluded by expressing gratitude for the life they shared, describing him as a man who deeply impacted many lives.
“Being your wife was the greatest honour,” she wrote. “You are my sunshine, my Dadaa. You will always be my favourite human being.”
Tribune Online reports that Alexx Ekubo passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the age of 40.
