Nigerian media personality Roby Ekpo has issued a public apology following the backlash that trailed his emotional appearance on the The Honest Bunch podcast, where he spoke about his failed marriage to Mayowa Lambe.
In a statement shared via his social media page on Sunday, Ekpo expressed appreciation to supporters who reached out with messages, calls, and encouragement. He, however, acknowledged that his emotional display during the interview may have unsettled some viewers.
“For those whose tears I offended, I am sorry. Pain leaves the body in many forms,” he wrote.
The on-air personality, whose tearful moment during the podcast went viral, described himself as someone who “loves deeply,” adding that he is now prioritising healing, self-care, and personal growth.
“My heart feels lighter and free… From this point, it’s my work, my career and my undying passion to be good to myself and be softer with myself. I am on a journey,” he added.
Denies ₦100m Claim, Hands Matter to Lawyers
Ekpo also addressed the legal dispute stemming from the controversy, revealing that the matter has now been handed over to his legal representatives.
“Every other matter is being handled by my lawyers,” he stated.
His response follows a cease-and-desist notice issued by his ex-wife, Mayowa Lambe, who accused him of defamation and demanded a public retraction, apology, and ₦100 million in damages.
However, Ekpo has firmly denied the allegations, rejecting both the defamation claims and the financial demand.
Background
The controversy began after Ekpo’s appearance on the The Honest Bunch podcast, where he opened up about the collapse of his marriage. During the interview, he cited financial strain, emotional struggles, and relationship challenges as factors that contributed to the breakdown.
His comments sparked widespread reactions across social media, with opinions sharply divided. While some users sympathised with his emotional vulnerability, others criticised him for publicly discussing private marital issues.
