The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to content creators using its name, logo, uniforms, or likeness in skits without authorization, cautioning that such actions could lead to prosecution.
In a video shared on its official X account on Saturday, the anti-graft agency said it had observed a growing trend of individuals incorporating EFCC identity elements into online content without approval.
“It has come to the attention of the EFCC that some individuals and content creators are using the name, logo and likeness of EFCC in skits and other media content,” the commission said.
The agency stressed that it has not authorised any such usage, adding that many of the portrayals misrepresent its values and operational procedures.
“We wish to inform the general public that the EFCC has not authorised any such use,” it stated.
The commission made it clear that it does not endorse or sponsor any comedy, drama, or digital content featuring its identity without prior written consent.
“The public is hereby advised to cease and desist from using our name, logo, uniforms or any identifying elements in skits or promotional content without prior written approval. All violators will be prosecuted,” the EFCC warned.
The warning comes amid rising concerns over impersonation and fake EFCC operations across the country.
According to the agency, intelligence reports indicate that fraudsters have been posing as EFCC officials to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians, particularly targeting young people at eateries and recreational centres in major cities.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to protecting its image and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
