The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected gunrunners linked to an illegal firearms trafficking network connected to the Effurun incident involving the recovery of a Beretta pistol.
According to a statement issued by the force and signed by CP Yemi Oyeniyi, the arrests followed an intelligence-led investigation launched after the recovery of the firearm at a park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, on May 1, 2026.
Police authorities said the operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike. The suspects were apprehended in coordinated operations across Bayelsa and Imo States.
According to the Command, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka was arrested in Bayelsa State on May 4, 2026, alongside an associate whose mobile phone was allegedly used to facilitate communication in the illegal arms deal.
During interrogation, Chukwuemeka reportedly confessed to purchasing the firearm from Amadi Princewill for ₦290,000 and reselling it for ₦380,000 to another suspect identified as Desmond, who is currently at large. The weapon was allegedly transported to Effurun and later linked to further movements involving other individuals.
Following the confession, police operatives trailed and arrested Amadi Princewill in Imo State on May 15, 2026. He was said to have admitted purchasing the weapon from Amadi Felix Chibuike for ₦200,000.
Subsequently, Amadi Felix Chibuike was also arrested in Owerri, Imo State, on May 16, 2026, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to four.
The police further stated that the suspects are believed to be members of a confraternity group, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, including the said Desmond.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
He added that the Command remains committed to dismantling illegal arms networks and ensuring public safety across the state.
