Nigerian music star Davido has announced an indefinite break from music, revealing that fans should not expect new songs from him anytime soon.
The award-winning singer made the disclosure during a recent livestream session with content creator Davrel, where he explained that he is currently taking a sabbatical from recording and releasing music.
According to the “OBO” crooner, he has no pressure to put out new tracks at the moment because his existing catalogue continues to dominate club playlists across the country and beyond.
“Stop asking me when I am dropping new music. I am on a musical break. Like I said if you go to the club right now, 10 out of 20 songs are mine. So I am on a musical break,” Davido said during the livestream.
The singer’s announcement has since sparked reactions from fans on social media, with many expressing surprise over his decision to temporarily step away from the music scene despite his continued dominance in the Afrobeats industry.
Speaking further during the livestream, Davido also shared his thoughts on the growing celebrity boxing trend in Nigeria, describing it as a positive development for the entertainment industry.
“I am actually impressed by the celebrity boxing tournament. It is a welcome development,” he stated.
The celebrity boxing tournament has recently gained popularity online, especially after streamer Cater Efe defeated controversial singer Portable to emerge as the reigning champion.
Following his defeat, Portable accused some of his colleagues in the entertainment industry of lacking support for him, claiming that many people in the industry dislike him.
