Senegalese-American singer and record producer, Akon, has opened up about his views on relationships, admitting that he misses the period in his life when he had multiple romantic partners, describing it as more “exciting” than monogamy.
The award-winning artiste made the revelation during a recent interview on The Shade Room, where he reflected on his past lifestyle and current relationship experiences.
According to him, life felt easier and more enjoyable when he was involved with multiple women, compared to being in a single committed relationship.
“My life was much easier when I had multiple women surrounding me. But being with just one woman isn’t as exciting,” he said.
When asked about his current relationship situation and the number of women he is involved with, Akon declined to give a direct answer, jokingly avoiding the question.
“I plead the fifth; it will be incriminating to answer,” he said.
His comments come shortly after reports of his divorce from his wife, Tomeka Thiam, in September 2025, following 28 years of marriage. The separation was said to be due to irreconcilable differences, and the union produced a daughter named Journey.
Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, has previously spoken openly about his belief in polygamy and has often described himself as someone who does not fully align with monogamous relationships.
In earlier interviews, he confirmed being the father of nine children and has been linked to multiple women over the years, including individuals associated with his record label, Konvict Kulture.
