Nollywood actor, Clinton Joshua Ezenele, has opened up on why he deliberately avoids performing kissing scenes in movies, saying the decision is aimed at protecting his career from typecasting.
Speaking in a recent interview on TVC’s E Splash, Joshua explained that his stance is a personal boundary designed to ensure he is not repeatedly cast in only romantic roles.
According to him, once an actor becomes strongly associated with a particular on-screen act, it becomes difficult to break out and secure diverse roles in the industry.
“I don’t kiss in movies because this is Nollywood and when you are doing that — I am not trying to brag — producers will likely give me the same role over and over again,” he said.
Joshua, who has featured in films such as For Her Sake (2026), We Are All Yours (2024), and Flavours of the Heart (2025), added that he is intentional about building a versatile acting portfolio rather than being limited to romantic storylines.
“I don’t want to kiss half the girls in Nollywood,” he added.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions in the Nigerian film industry about the place of intimate scenes in storytelling and how actors navigate personal boundaries while taking on roles.
Recently, other Nollywood actors have also shared differing perspectives on the issue. Actress Scarlet Gomez revealed that her husband, Temi Gomez, fully supports her involvement in intimate scenes, noting that trust is key in their marriage.
Similarly, actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has previously stated that he prays before filming intimate scenes, describing it as a way to maintain balance and discipline in his craft.
