U.S. President Donald Trump has announced what he described as expanded naval operations in the Strait of Hormuz, issuing strong directives on maritime security efforts in the region.
In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed he had ordered the United States Navy to take aggressive action against suspected threats involving naval mines in the strategic waterway.
He wrote: “I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be… that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There is to be no hesitation.”
He further claimed that U.S. mine-clearing operations were already underway, adding: “Additionally, our mine ‘sweepers’ are clearing the Strait right now.”
Trump also directed that the operation be significantly expanded, stating: “I am hereby ordering that activity to continue, but at a tripled up level!”
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, has historically been a flashpoint for geopolitical tensions and military activity, drawing global attention whenever security risks emerge.
However, the post did not provide independent verification of the claims, and there has been no immediate official confirmation from the U.S. Navy or the Pentagon regarding the statements.
