United States President, Donald Trump, has announced that American forces, alongside the Armed Forces of Nigeria, carried out a joint military operation that led to the elimination of a top ISIS commander identified as Abu-Bilal al-Minuki.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms and reposted by The White House, Trump described the mission as “meticulously planned” and “very complex,” saying the operation successfully neutralized what he called “the most active terrorist in the world.”
According to Trump, the ISIS commander, allegedly second-in-command globally within the terror network, had been hiding in Africa while coordinating terrorist activities.
“Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield,” Trump stated.
He further claimed that the operation significantly weakened ISIS global operations and praised the Nigerian government for its partnership in the mission.
“Thank you to the Government of Nigeria for your partnership on this operation,” he added.
The statement has since generated widespread reactions online, especially among Nigerians, as many await official confirmation or details from Nigerian military authorities and the Federal Government regarding the reported joint operation.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Nigerian Defence Headquarters or the Presidency confirming the operation or the reported killing of the ISIS commander.
