The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has outlined a step-by-step guide for Nigerians seeking to apply for or renew their passports through its Contactless Passport Application System.
The initiative is designed to simplify passport processing by allowing eligible applicants to complete most of the application process online before selecting the contactless option.
Below is the official application process:
Step 1: Visit the NIS Passport Portal
Go to the official Nigeria Immigration Service passport application portal at:
https://passportintl.immigration.gov.ng
Step 2: Select “Continue”
Once the portal opens, click the “Continue” option from the pop-up displayed on the homepage.
Step 3: Choose Passport Renewal/Re-issue
Click on the “Apply for Renewal/Re-issue” option to begin your application.
Step 4: Create an Account
Sign up by creating an account. Applicants will be required to enter their National Identification Number (NIN) and Date of Birth to verify their identity.
Step 5: Complete the Application Form
Fill out the passport application form accurately and select your preferred Processing Embassy or processing location.
Step 6: Upload Required Documents
Upload all the relevant supporting documents requested during the application process.
Step 7: Pay the Passport Fee
Proceed to pay the applicable passport fee for your selected passport booklet.
Step 8: Obtain Your Application Details
After payment, the system will generate your Application ID and Reference Number. Keep these details safe, as they will be required for tracking your application.
Step 9: Opt for Contactless Processing
Applicants will then be redirected to either book an appointment or opt for the Contactless Passport Application System.
To continue with the contactless process, click “Opt-In for Contactless” under the Application Status/Book Appointment section.
The Nigeria Immigration Service introduced the Contactless Passport Application System as part of efforts to modernise passport services, reduce physical visits to passport offices and improve the overall application experience for Nigerians at home and abroad.
