The Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has invoked a spiritual curse against kidnappers, armed robbers and other individuals involved in criminal activities, declaring that those who threaten the peace of Edo State will face the consequences of their actions.
The monarch carried out the spiritual exercise on Wednesday through traditional priests and priestesses attached to various shrines, the Ewaise (traditional physicians), members of the Iwebo society, and adherents of Aiyelala, in what was described as a renewed effort to combat insecurity in the state.
Oba Ewuare II said the traditional intervention became necessary in light of the growing security challenges facing the state, noting that ancient customs have always played a role in preserving peace and protecting communities.
According to the monarch, the spiritual exercise is not intended to replace the work of security agencies but to complement the efforts of the Edo State Government in tackling crime and restoring public confidence.
He stressed that traditional institutions have a responsibility to support every legitimate effort aimed at safeguarding lives and property, adding that those who continue to engage in criminal activities should be prepared to face both legal and spiritual consequences.
