Dominic Nwuzor, former manager of late Nollywood comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has urged the Enugu State government to provide scholarships for the actor’s children.
Nwuzor, CEO of Don Singles International, managed Mr Ibu for more than two decades until his passing in March 2024. Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, he called on the state government to support the children in accessing quality education and becoming self-reliant.
“We have appealed for scholarship opportunities for the children, and will continue to do so, so that something can be done,” Nwuzor said. “His Excellency, Gov. Peter Mbah, is a leader with a large heart and does not take lightly the education of the people, especially the vulnerable ones. We hope he will consider offering scholarships to the offspring of the man who used his talent to make the state proud across Africa and beyond.”
Mr Ibu is celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most beloved comic actors, known for his unique comedic timing, expressive facial gestures, and iconic roles portraying clumsy or foolish characters. He earned the title “The Man Who Made Africa Laugh”, with his performances in the ‘Mr Ibu’ movies making him a household name across the continent.
Nwuzor’s appeal emphasizes the need to support the education of children of late cultural icons, ensuring that the legacy of talent and contribution continues to benefit future generations.
