Actor Emeka Ike has threatened to take action against Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the alleged exposure of his personal data obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
The controversy began after Olayinka reportedly shared details said to have been retrieved from an INEC administrative webpage, showing Emeka Ike’s voter information following his participation in the House of Representatives election for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), where he lost.
Olayinka had earlier come under criticism from Nigerians after posting screenshots believed to contain Ike’s voter registration details. The information reportedly included sensitive personal data such as his application number, registration centre, Voter Identification Number (VIN), profile picture, name, and date of application.
In a post on his X handle, Olayinka claimed that Ike was previously registered as a voter in Imo State before transferring his registration to the Federal Capital Territory on May 15.
Reacting to the development during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Emeka Ike described the incident as “shocking” and condemned the alleged release of his private information.
“It’s quite shocking, extreme and it is the height of political rascality for a government officer to access a citizen’s information from the INEC cyber,” Ike said.
He accused those involved of abusing access to sensitive data and warned that such actions undermine public trust in institutions.
“It tells you a lot about how much impunity we have flying around… that’s quite deplorable and I see that as a huge insult and slap on every political party and every Nigerian,” he added.
The actor further stated that he is prepared to pursue action against those responsible for the alleged breach.
“Actions are ready, I’m ready to take him on. He has no right to exploit my privacy and insult Nigerians the way he did. If he has been doing it in the past, this should be the last time he does it,” he said.
Emeka Ike also explained that his decision to contest for political office in the FCT followed appeals from supporters who encouraged him to relocate his ambition from his home state to Abuja.
According to him, he initially intended to contest in his state but was persuaded by supporters who raised concerns about governance in the FCT, prompting him to join the race for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat.
