The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged the Federal Government to give Nigeria’s security chiefs a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorists across the country or resign from their positions.
Adeboye made the call in a video shared on X on Tuesday, expressing concern over the persistent security challenges facing the nation and the need for decisive action to end terrorism and violent attacks.
According to the cleric, security chiefs should be held accountable for delivering tangible results in the fight against terrorism.
“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, ‘Move fast and tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign,’” he said.
Adeboye stressed that the battle against insecurity should not stop at neutralising terrorists but should also target those who finance and support their operations.
“When giving orders to the service chiefs this time around, we should make it clear to them that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists; they should eliminate their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” he added.
The respected cleric recalled making a similar recommendation to a former Nigerian president, urging him to issue a deadline to security chiefs to tackle terrorism. According to Adeboye, while the directive was eventually given, it was not strictly enforced after the deadline expired.
He noted that the experience highlighted the importance of political will and the need for authorities to follow through on security directives if meaningful progress is to be achieved.
Adeboye’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over terrorism, banditry and kidnapping across several parts of Nigeria, with many citizens and stakeholders calling for stronger measures to address the country’s worsening security situation.
His comments add to growing calls for greater accountability among security agencies and a more aggressive approach to dismantling terrorist networks and their sponsors.
