The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has denied claims circulating online alleging the use of third-party channels for passport application payments, insisting that all transactions must be carried out strictly through its official platform.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Service described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that it does not authorise any religious organisation, private entity, or individual to act as an intermediary in passport processing or payments.
The NIS reaffirmed that its only approved platform for passport applications and payments is the official portal at http://passport.immigration.gov.ng, which remains the sole channel for Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
It warned that any third-party websites, agents, or platforms claiming to facilitate passport payments on behalf of the Service are fraudulent and should be avoided.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations suggest that the false claims may have been spread by individuals seeking to mislead the public or damage the reputation of the Service. The NIS added that it is currently investigating the matter and will take appropriate action against anyone found responsible.
The Service further reiterated that it operates in line with government financial regulations and only works with licensed and accredited payment service providers clearly listed on its official portal.
It cautioned Nigerians that payments made outside approved channels are at their own risk, as the Service will not be liable for any loss or complications arising from such transactions.
The NIS urged members of the public to remain vigilant, avoid unofficial agents, and rely solely on verified communication channels for information and services.
