The Confederation of African Football has officially announced that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place from June 19 to July 17, marking a historic return of the tournament to East Africa.
The decision was approved by the FIFA Council during a meeting held in Vancouver, Canada, putting to rest concerns over possible delays due to preparedness challenges in the host nations.
The 2027 edition will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, making it the first AFCON tournament to be staged across three countries.
However, CAF has yet to determine which of the three nations will host the opening match and the final.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence in the readiness of the host countries, insisting that the tournament would proceed as scheduled despite earlier concerns.
“We have worked hard to ensure that the AFCON is held in East Africa, and our commitment remains unwavering. I am confident that we will organise a very successful AFCON in these three countries,” Motsepe said.
