Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has thrown his weight behind the City Boy Movement, urging its members to intensify efforts toward greater youth participation in politics and national development.
Oborevwori gave the commendation on Tuesday when he received the leadership of the movement, led by its National Director-General, Hon. Francis Shoga, during a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba.
The governor praised the group’s passion, organisation, and growing influence, noting its visible presence across Delta State and beyond through sustained mobilisation and advocacy campaigns.
“I must commend the passionate drive you all have exhibited since the inception of the City Boy Movement. I have watched your activities across different platforms and seen your presence across the state and even nationwide,” he said.
He stressed the importance of youth involvement in governance, describing young people as critical stakeholders in shaping Nigeria’s present and future.
“Your ideas, your energy, and your sense of purpose are essential in building inclusive and forward-thinking policies. You have demonstrated strong capacity for mobilisation and advocacy, and we are ready to partner with you,” Oborevwori added.
The governor also lauded the movement for its support for President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a committed democrat, and encouraged members to sustain their mobilisation efforts ahead of future elections.
Highlighting the increasing role of young people in politics, Oborevwori noted that even youths within his immediate environment, including his children, are actively engaged in political discourse, reflecting a broader shift in youth consciousness.
He further commended the patrons of the movement at both national and state levels, acknowledging the challenges involved in organising and mobilising young people in the current political climate. He urged members to remain focused despite criticisms and opposition.
Earlier, National Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Francis Shoga, said the visit symbolised a renewed commitment by Nigerian youths to take responsibility for the country’s future.
He commended the governor for his leadership in Delta State, particularly in creating opportunities and improving livelihoods.
Shoga described the City Boy Movement as a structured, youth-driven platform aimed at empowering young people, nurturing leadership potential, and promoting active participation in governance.
“The future of Nigeria belongs to its young people. This movement is built on the belief that youths are not meant to be spectators but active participants in shaping the destiny of our nation,” he said.
According to him, the movement has expanded significantly, with structures in over 30 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, and a presence in more than 100 countries worldwide.
He added that the group is committed to mobilising millions of young voters in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates, while promoting unity, discipline, and purposeful engagement among youths.
The visit also featured the formal inauguration of the Delta State chapter of the City Boy Movement.
