Nigerian award-winning singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about the words of encouragement his wife, Chioma Adeleke, gave him after he lost at the Grammy Awards for the second time.
Davido’s song “With You,” featuring Omah Lay, was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category but did not win.
The category featured strong Nigerian representation, including nominations for Burna Boy (Love), Davido (With You featuring Omah Lay), and a joint entry by Ayra Starr and Wizkid (Gimme Dat). Other nominees included Eddy Kenzo (Hope & Love) and *Mehran Matin.
Despite Nigeria’s strong presence, the award went to South African singer Tyla for her track “Push 2 Start”, marking her second Grammy win.
Taking to Instagram on Monday night, Davido revealed that he initially suggested skipping the Grammy after-party following the loss.
However, Chioma encouraged him to attend, reminding him to keep perspective. Sharing photos from the event, Davido wrote: “I said, ‘Baby listen, we lost again, let’s not go!’ She said, ‘Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. We’re outside.’”
