The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised alarm over the circulation of counterfeit Dostinex 0.5mg Tablets in Nigeria, urging healthcare professionals and the public to exercise caution.
In Public Alert No. 07/2026, the agency disclosed that three batches of the NAFDAC-registered product have been falsified and are currently in circulation through unauthorised and parallel importation channels.
According to NAFDAC, Pfizer Nigeria Ltd, the Marketing Authorisation Holder (MAH) for Dostinex, confirmed the presence of falsified and unregistered imported versions of the medicine in the Nigerian market. The agency clarified that while the product is duly registered, the genuine version has not yet been officially imported into the country, meaning any available stock in circulation is considered falsified.
Dostinex 0.5mg (cabergoline) is a medication used to reduce prolactin secretion and is commonly prescribed for conditions associated with elevated prolactin levels.
NAFDAC warned that counterfeit medicines pose significant health risks due to uncertainty about their safety, quality and efficacy. The agency has therefore directed healthcare providers to immediately review stocks in hospitals, clinics and pharmacies and report any suspected falsified or compromised products.
Members of the public and healthcare professionals are advised to report suspicious products to the nearest NAFDAC office, call the toll-free number 0800-162-3322, or send an email to [sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng](mailto:sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng).
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to surveillance and regulatory enforcement to safeguard public health and prevent the distribution of counterfeit medical products across the country.
