A fire has erupted at the old terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, a facility currently undergoing multi-billion-naira renovations.
Details surrounding the outbreak remain limited as of the time of reporting. The affected terminal, part of the airport’s older infrastructure, is being upgraded to improve facilities and passenger experience.
Confirming the incident, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Henry Agbebire, said emergency teams were on the scene managing the situation.
“We are aware of the outbreak, and our teams are already on site. We will publish a detailed statement shortly,” Agbebire said.
He added that the FAAN firefighting unit had swung into action to prevent further damage.
“Our firefighting team is actively responding and working to contain the blaze,” he stated.
FAAN reassured the public that there were no casualties from the incident.
“No loss of lives has been recorded. Updates will follow as the situation is assessed,” the agency said.
Passengers and airport users have been advised to remain calm while officials work to extinguish the fire and evaluate the extent of damage to the facility.
