Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in connection with allegations of unauthorized access to a telephone conversation involving the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.
Delivering ruling on Monday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik admitted El-Rufai to bail in the sum of N100 million with one surety in like sum.
The court held that the surety must own landed property within Abuja and provide relevant documentation to the court registrar for verification.
El-Rufai is currently facing trial over allegations bordering on unlawful access to a private telephone conversation allegedly linked to the NSA. The federal government had earlier arraigned the former governor on charges relating to cyber and privacy violations.
At the resumed hearing, El-Rufai’s legal team urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, arguing that he had consistently honoured invitations by security agencies and posed no flight risk.
