Rivers State Chief Judge, Simeon Amadi, has declined to constitute a judicial panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara, citing an existing court order that prevents the probe.
The Rivers State House of Assembly had requested the formation of a seven-member panel to look into allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu. However, Chief Judge Amadi said he could not set up the panel as doing so would conflict with the ongoing legal processes.
The House of Assembly had described the investigation as necessary to maintain accountability and public trust in the state’s leadership. Despite this, the Chief Judge emphasized adherence to judicial directives and warned that any action contrary to the court order could be legally challenged.
At the time of this report, the Rivers State government has not yet commented on the Chief Judge’s decision.
