Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and defected to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to a report by NTA, the duo announced their defection following a closed-door meeting with the national leader of the party, Senator Seriake Dickson, held at his residence in Abuja.
Their latest move marks another major political shift, coming just months after both leaders joined the ADC from their respective former political platforms, a development that had earlier stirred conversations across the country’s political landscape.
Although details of the meeting were not made public, sources familiar with the discussions hinted that the move is part of a broader realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Obi nor Kwankwaso had issued a detailed statement outlining the reasons behind their latest political switch.
