Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has formally declared her intention to seek re-election for a second term in the Senate, marking the beginning of early political mobilisation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the district.
The senator made the declaration on Monday during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held in Kogi Central, where party leaders, supporters and key stakeholders gathered to discuss the future of the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Her decision, according to a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko, follows months of consultations with constituents across the five local government areas of the senatorial district.
Addressing the gathering, Akpoti-Uduaghan said her decision to run again was influenced by widespread encouragement from her supporters.
“After due consultations and encouragement from my lovely husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she said to loud applause.
The announcement comes amid growing political realignments in Kogi Central, where stakeholders have intensified consultations and endorsements ahead of the next election cycle.
The senator also used the occasion to call for unity within the PDP, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in future elections.
“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” she urged.
PDP leaders at the meeting praised her performance in office, describing her tenure as impactful and people-focused.
The PDP Kogi Central Zonal Chairman, Anthony Akuvada, said her leadership had redefined representation in the district.
“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has redefined representation in Kogi Central. Her performance in office has been nothing short of exemplary, from infrastructural development to human capital empowerment,” he said.
He added that her accessibility and engagement with constituents had strengthened trust between the electorate and elected officials.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also expressed appreciation to her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Otuoze Uduaghan, for his support throughout her political journey.
“My husband has been my steadfast support system, my encourager, and my strength through every challenge,” she said.
