Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has died.
Her passing was confirmed on Tuesday through a statement shared on Instagram by fellow gospel artist Ayo Melody on behalf of her family. The post included a photograph of the late singer and a video showing her remains.
“With great sadness 💔😭 we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital, Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest,” the statement read.
Bunmi Akinnaanu had been publicly seeking prayers for a serious leg ailment. In October 2025, a video circulated online showing her at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, during a church service. She was seen seated with her affected leg stretched out while a pastor prayed for her, drawing sympathy and prayers from fans and colleagues in the gospel community.
Akinnaanu began singing at a young age and eventually left a career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time. Her song “Omije Ojumi” became a widely recognized hit, cementing her place in Nigeria’s gospel music scene.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, fellow artists, and members of the gospel music community, all mourning the loss of a talented and dedicated performer.
