The Delta State Government has intensified efforts to improve electricity supply across the state through renewed engagement with key power infrastructure.
The Commissioner for Energy, Michael Anoka, FNSE, led a delegation on an inspection visit to the Okpai Independent Power Plant in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state.
The visit is part of the government’s broader strategy to optimise existing power assets and strengthen the electricity supply chain across Delta State.
Anoka said the move reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing the state’s energy challenges through practical and decisive interventions.
He noted that the inspection followed a directive from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who ordered the Ministry of Energy to urgently deploy workable solutions aimed at improving electricity supply across the state.
According to him, the administration remains focused on ensuring reliable and sustainable power supply for residents and businesses in Delta State.
He explained that priority is being given to the effective utilisation of existing facilities, including the Okpai Power Plant and other energy assets within the state.
Anoka disclosed that the Okpai Independent Power Plant currently generates about 480 megawatts of electricity.
He added that the second phase of the project is expected to contribute an additional 450 megawatts to the national grid, raising total capacity to about 930 megawatts.
He said the state government intends to leverage the expanded capacity to significantly improve electricity supply across Delta State.
The Commissioner also recalled a meeting held on April 8 with Power Acumen Consulting Limited, where the firm presented proposals on practical strategies for achieving stable electricity supply in the state.
During the inspection visit, the delegation was received by Francis Enebeli, who confirmed the plant’s current output and ongoing expansion works.
Anoka reiterated Governor Oborevwori’s vision of positioning Delta State among the first in Nigeria to achieve a fully electrified economy.
He said improved electricity supply would boost economic activities, attract investments, create jobs, and enhance the standard of living of residents.
Anoka assured that the administration is committed to delivering measurable results, stressing that ongoing engagements and site inspections reflect the government’s determination to achieve stable power supply across the state.
