The Nigeria Police Force has demoted a serving female sergeant, Anemena Favour, to the rank of corporal over an alleged violation of the Force’s social media policy after she was seen conducting a live TikTok broadcast while in uniform.
Sources within the Police told SaharaReporters that the disciplinary action followed an orderly-room proceeding reviewed by the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
In a video obtained on Tuesday, the officer was observed livestreaming on TikTok while dressed in full police uniform—an act authorities said contravenes established regulations guiding officers’ conduct and use of social media platforms.
Anemena, who bears force number 068919 and is attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 25 in Asaba, Delta State, was found guilty under Paragraphs E(iii) and F of Police Regulation 370, Act 2, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2020.
The regulations prohibit police personnel from engaging in online activities that ridicule, malign or show disrespect toward individuals or groups; sharing sexually explicit content; promoting inappropriate dressing in or out of uniform; or participating in conduct capable of bringing disrepute to the Force.
A police source confirmed that the DFA upheld the punishment of reduction in rank from sergeant to corporal, describing the sanction as a deterrent to other officers.
“The defaulter was found guilty as charged, and the punishment was upheld to reinforce discipline within the Force,” the source said.
Authorities have also directed that all relevant records, including the police Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and nominal roll, be updated to reflect the officer’s new rank. The Commander of SPU Base 25, Asaba, was instructed to ensure Anemena’s immediate reversion to the rank of corporal.
The Nigeria Police Force has repeatedly warned officers against improper use of social media, stressing that online conduct must align with professional ethics and established regulations.
