The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an ex-parte motion filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), seeking his transfer from the Sokoto Correctional Facility.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, Kanu’s legal representative, Demdoo Asan of the Legal Aid Council, informed the court of his intention to withdraw from the case, citing irreconcilable differences with the applicant. Asan explained that Kanu had attempted to dictate the proceedings and control what counsel would present in court, a demand the lawyer could not accept in good faith.
“As officers of the court, when a matter comes to us, we handle it as we see fit; otherwise, the applicant can seek legal representation elsewhere,” Asan told the court.
Justice James Omotosho commended the counsel for upholding the integrity of the court and granted leave for Asan and the Legal Aid Council to withdraw from representing Kanu. The judge ruled that the ex-parte motion was incompetent and therefore struck it out.
He further directed that all other parties involved in the matter be served with notice to ensure fairness and proper procedure, noting that there had been no proof of service since the last sitting on December 8, 2025.
