The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Monday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the reports as “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” warning against giving credence to unfounded rumours.
The party noted that initial reports were subtle but recent speculation had escalated, even naming specific individuals as potential replacements for Shettima.
“Our attention has been drawn to the growing media frenzy about possible replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Tinubu under the platform of our great party ahead of the 2027 General Elections,” the statement read.
“While these stories have mostly been subtle, they recently assumed a new dimension when names of specific individuals were touted as possible replacements for Vice President Shettima. Our party states in categorical terms that the stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” the APC added.
The ruling party urged media organisations to avoid amplifying rumours from unreliable sources, stressing that such reports promote confusion and discord in the polity.
APC further emphasised that political activities remain restricted under existing electoral laws and regulations, and that its primary focus remains on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes ongoing economic reforms, wealth creation, and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
The party also called on ministers, senior officials, and party members to refrain from statements or actions that could fuel speculation, urging them instead to focus on effective governance and consolidating the achievements of the current administration.
