President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure will end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a State House press release issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading experts in computer engineering, digital infrastructure, and examination systems management.
Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom. He also earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK.
In addition, he completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Aina began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where he gained firsthand experience in the nation’s admissions and examination processes.
According to the Presidency, those early experiences helped shape his long-standing contributions to examination reform, digital systems optimisation, and institutional transformation.
With over 15 years of post-graduation experience, Aina has worked closely with both federal and state governments on projects involving technology-driven reforms, system design, and digital transition initiatives.
He has also served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state ministries of education.
The Presidency noted that Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at the age of 39 and will now emerge as the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
He is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new JAMB Registrar would build on the achievements recorded under Professor Oloyede and further strengthen the Board’s operations through innovation, transparency, and technological advancement.
The President said he expects Aina to deploy his “vast experience, knowledge and practical insight” to move the examination body to greater heights.
