Nigerian streamer and content creator Carter Efe has responded after Babcock University dismissed a graduation certificate he shared online as fake and threatened to pursue legal action.
The controversy began after Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, claimed during an interview with content creator Egungun of Lagos that he graduated from the private university with first-class honours.
Following the interview, the comedian posted what he described as his graduation certificate on his X account. The document indicated that he graduated in 2023 with a “First Class Upper” degree.
However, Babcock University, in a statement released on Tuesday, distanced itself from the certificate, describing it as “false, unauthorised and fraudulent.”
The university stressed that it does not issue “Honorary Certificates” in recognition of undergraduate academic performance, adding that all academic honours are reflected only on official degree certificates and academic transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar.
It also warned that it would not hesitate to take legal action against anyone responsible for producing, circulating or using the alleged forged document.
Reacting during a live-stream session, Carter Efe appeared unfazed by the university’s statement, mocking the institution’s legal threat.
“Babcock University, I heard that you are looking for me, you would not see me. Before you would see me, you would pay ₦100,000 for ticket to see me in Babcock and we are coming soon,” he said.
