The Walt Disney Company has announced that longtime CEO Bob Iger will step down from his role, with Josh D’Amaro, the current head of Disney’s theme parks division, set to succeed him.
According to Fox News, the company made the announcement on Tuesday, marking a major leadership change at one of the world’s largest entertainment conglomerates. Bob Iger, who returned as CEO in 2022 to guide Disney through a period of transformation, will hand over the reins to D’Amaro, who has been with Disney for more than 20 years.
Iger is widely credited with expanding Disney’s global footprint, overseeing major acquisitions including Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox, and driving the launch of Disney+, the company’s streaming platform. His leadership helped Disney navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and a rapidly changing media landscape.
Josh D’Amaro, 49, currently serves as Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. Under his leadership, Disney’s theme parks have seen record attendance, successful openings of new attractions, and innovative guest experiences. He is expected to focus on continuing Disney’s expansion in streaming, international markets, and theme park innovation.
In a statement, Iger said,“It has been an honor to lead Disney through transformative years. I am confident that Josh is the right person to continue our mission of delivering unparalleled stories, experiences, and magic to audiences around the world.”
D’Amaro added,“I am humbled by the trust placed in me and excited to work with the talented teams across Disney to shape the next chapter of this incredible company.”
