The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has officially relaunched its Digital Stamp and Seal for legal practitioners, reinforcing efforts to strengthen professional regulation, improve ease of practice, and protect the integrity of legal documentation in Nigeria.
Originally introduced during the administration of Mr. Y. C. Maikyau, SAN, the Digital Stamp and Seal initiative has now been upgraded with a more streamlined and user-friendly application process. The Association said the relaunch reflects its continued commitment to leveraging technology to modernise legal practice and eliminate abuses linked to unauthorised legal documentation.
A major highlight of the relaunch is the special provision for young lawyers. Legal practitioners who are between one and seven years post-call and have paid their Bar Practising Fee for the 2026 practice year will receive the Digital Stamp and Seal free of charge. According to the NBA, the move is intended to ease financial pressure on young lawyers and support their professional growth.
The Digital Stamp and Seal remains mandatory for authenticating legal documents and plays a critical role in combating impersonation, forgery, and the activities of fake lawyers. The NBA reaffirmed that the initiative is central to safeguarding the legal profession and protecting the public from unqualified practitioners.
The Association urged eligible lawyers to take advantage of the simplified process and encouraged members to regularise their practising status to benefit from the relaunch. It described the development as a practical step toward strengthening professional standards, improving access to justice, and empowering young lawyers as the future of the Bar.
