President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, to serve as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr. Doris UzokaAnite in the Federal Executive Council (FEC). Dr. UzokaAnite will transition to her third role in the current administration as Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, the presidency confirmed on Tuesday.
Mr. Oyedele, widely recognised as Nigeria’s foremost tax reform expert, has been at the centre of President Tinubu’s ambitious fiscal transformation agenda since his appointment in July 2023 as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. The committee was established to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system, enhance revenue mobilisation and improve fiscal governance.
Taiwo Oyedele is a Nigerian economist, accountant and public policy expert with extensive experience in tax policy, fiscal strategy and economic governance. He earned his foundational education in accountancy and finance with an HND from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Before his government service, Oyedele spent more than two decades at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he rose to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He also served in highlevel fiscal roles, including Vice Chairman of the National Tax Policy Committee, Chairman of the Taxation and Fiscal Policy Faculty Board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and thematic lead on fiscal policy for the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).
Under his leadership, the Presidential Committee drafted and advocated for a suite of tax reform bills aimed at simplifying Nigeria’s complex tax system, harmonising tax administration and boosting domestic revenue. One major recommendation, the establishment of the Nigeria Revenue Service to replace fragmented tax agencies — was captured in four tax reform bills passed by the National Assembly in 2025.
