Canadian rap superstar Drake has scored another major sports betting victory after making more than $1 million from a high-stakes wager on Canada’s FIFA World Cup clash against South Africa.
The Toronto-born musician placed a $770,000 bet on Canada to defeat South Africa in their Round of 32 encounter, with the wager carrying a potential payout of $1,001,000. Canada’s dramatic 1-0 victory secured the payout, earning Drake a profit of approximately $231,000.
Before kickoff, Drake revealed on his Instagram page that the bet was inspired by a playful exchange with South African DJ Black Coffee.
“@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM. I had to raise the STAKES,” the rapper wrote while sharing a screenshot of the wager.

Canada’s victory came in dramatic fashion at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where midfielder Stephen Eustáquio scored a stunning stoppage-time volley to seal a 1-0 win and send the co-host nation into the Round of 16 for the first time in FIFA World Cup history.
The defeat marked the end of South Africa’s historic campaign at the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bafana Bafana had reached the knockout stage for the first time after finishing runners-up in Group A, qualifying ahead of Nigeria. The Hugo Broos-led side impressed during the group phase, including a crucial 1-0 victory over South Korea to advance from a group featuring co-hosts Mexico and Czechia.
Despite their spirited run, South Africa’s hopes of progressing further were dashed by Canada’s late winner.
For Drake, however, the result added another successful chapter to his growing reputation as one of the world’s most prominent celebrity sports bettors.
The Grammy-winning rapper has become well known for placing multimillion-dollar wagers on major sporting events, including the NBA Finals, UFC title fights, boxing matches and international football tournaments.
