Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old suspected internet fraudster, popularly referred to as a “Yahoo boy,” for allegedly killing his friend over a $1,000 transaction.
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed that the incident occurred on January 21, 2026, in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
According to Edafe, the suspect, identified as Mr. Oghenegare, reportedly had a dispute with the deceased, Mr. Courage, who was also involved in internet fraud activities. The disagreement escalated into a confrontation during which Oghenegare allegedly struck Courage on the head, resulting in his death.
“The suspect has been taken into custody at the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, and a thorough investigation is ongoing,” Edafe said, expressing concern over the rising incidence of violent crimes linked to disputes, drug abuse, and impulsive behavior.
In a video statement, Oghenegare admitted that Courage, a childhood friend, had “logged him out” of the transaction, which triggered the deadly altercation.
Authorities have called on residents to exercise caution and report disputes promptly to prevent similar violent outcomes.
