The Ogun State Government has launched an investigation into the rape allegation made by a Nigerian TikToker, Mirabel (@mirab351), following an incident reportedly involving a stranger in the Ogijo area of the state.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the government had activated a coordinated, multi-sectoral response to the allegation to ensure justice and proper care for the survivor.
According to the Commissioner, Mirabel has been admitted to a state-owned health facility, where she is currently receiving comprehensive medical attention, including detailed clinical examinations and psychosocial support in line with established protocols for handling alleged sexual assault cases.
Adeleye stated that the government’s response is structured to safeguard the welfare and dignity of the survivor while ensuring that investigations are conducted professionally and strictly based on verifiable evidence. She added that security agencies are already working on the case.
“The welfare, dignity and safety of every survivor remain our utmost priority. The Dapo Abiodun-led administration maintains a zero-tolerance stance on sexual and gender-based violence,” she said.
She, however, emphasised the need for due process, noting that investigations must be transparent, evidence-based, and fair to all parties involved. “Whoever is found wanting will face the full wrath of the law,” Adeleye added.
The Commissioner commended the Ogun State Police Command for its prompt action after the case was transferred from Lagos authorities and lauded the swift intervention of medical personnel and the State Ministry of Justice.
She also urged members of the public to avoid spreading speculative or sensational narratives that could undermine ongoing investigations, assuring that updates would be provided as credible findings emerge.
Mirabel had earlier taken to social media to allege that a male suspect forcibly gained entry into her apartment in Ogijo on Sunday and sexually assaulted her. The video sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for swift justice and stronger protection for survivors of sexual violence.
