Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has described Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as a blessing to Nigerians, citing her humility, compassion, and dedication to the welfare of vulnerable citizens.
Oborevwori made the remark on Thursday at a grand homecoming reception held in honour of the First Lady at the palace of the Olu of Warri in Warri, Delta State.
Addressing a jubilant crowd that gathered at the palace grounds from early morning, the governor commended Senator Tinubu’s record of service, particularly her years in the Senate, where he said she consistently championed policies that positively impacted Nigerians.
“We can all attest to how she stood firm during her time in the Senate. Nigerians are blessed to have a humble and compassionate First Lady who genuinely cares for the poor and vulnerable in our communities,” Oborevwori stated.
The governor noted that the visit marked the First Lady’s third official trip to Delta State within two years. He recalled her August 2024 visit to flag off the Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment programme for the South-South in Asaba, as well as her March 2025 visit to launch the Free to Shine programme, during which 10,000 professional kits were distributed to midwives across the region to strengthen healthcare delivery.
Oborevwori also praised her respect for traditional institutions, saying her decision to honour royal fathers outside the formal schedule during a previous visit demonstrated humility and cultural sensitivity.
Joining the celebration, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III described the First Lady’s visit as symbolic of unity and a new season of alignment for the Niger Delta and the country at large. He commended her grace, humility, and unwavering support for her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Reaffirming Delta State’s support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Oborevwori assured the First Lady that the state would continue to align with the Federal Government’s reform initiatives.
“Please tell Mr. President that Delta State stands firmly with him and his reforms for a better nation. You can always count on our support,” he said.
The governor also highlighted key infrastructural projects in Warri and its environs, including the completion of the over 20-kilometre Trans-Warri Road with 15 bridges and the Enerhen flyover constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria, with plans for further extensions toward the Nigerian Ports Authority corridor.
In her remarks, Senator Oluremi Tinubu expressed gratitude for the warm reception, describing her visit as an emotional homecoming. She emphasised national unity, pointing to the coincidental overlap of the Christian Lenten season and the Muslim fasting period as a call for togetherness beyond ethnic and religious divides.
As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative, the First Lady announced a N50 million empowerment support package for 1,000 women engaged in petty trading in the Warri Kingdom. She also pledged additional collaboration with the Delta State Government to support young men in the area.
The colourful ceremony attracted dignitaries, including former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, members of the National Assembly, state lawmakers, top government officials, and traditional leaders, amid cultural displays and solidarity chants celebrating the First Lady’s visit.
