The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, setting out key dates for presidential, national, and state-level polls.
According to the electoral body, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027, while Governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
INEC said the timetable and schedule of activities were finalised despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly. The commission noted that while preparations are on course, some activities may still be adjusted depending on when the revised law is passed.
The electoral umpire explained that it has already submitted its recommendations to lawmakers and is continuing nationwide preparations to ensure a smooth electoral process.
INEC had earlier introduced long-term election scheduling to reduce uncertainty, improve logistics, and give political parties, stakeholders, and voters ample time to prepare for future elections.
