Popular American Twitch streamer and internet personality, Kai Cenat, has returned to Lagos for his second visit to Nigeria, reigniting public interest in his long-promised school project for underprivileged children.
Cenat arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday, where he was welcomed with a lively band performance, a moment that quickly gained traction across social media platforms.
The visit comes nearly a year after his first trip to Nigeria, during which he pledged $5 million to build a school for children in Makoko, the waterfront community often referred to as Lagos’ floating slum.
Following the announcement, the project faced setbacks due to land acquisition challenges and regulatory approvals in Makoko. Because of the area’s unique floating structures, plans were later revised, with the proposed school site relocated to Yaba, a more stable part of Lagos. Despite the relocation, Cenat has maintained that children from Makoko will receive free education once the school becomes operational.
During Mafiathon 3, the streamer provided an update on the initiative, revealing that over $1 million has already been raised. He explained that the project would be executed in phases to ensure sustainability, stressing the importance of building a long-lasting institution rather than rushing the process.
Cenat’s return has sparked renewed excitement among Nigerian fans, many of whom believe his presence signals fresh momentum for the project. However, some social media users have continued to express scepticism, calling for clearer timelines and visible on-ground progress.
His visit comes amid growing global interest in Nigeria from international content creators. Recently, fellow American streamer IShowSpeed visited the country, drawing massive crowds and viral attention as he toured Lagos and interacted with fans and local creatives.
