Afrobeats superstar Davido has explained his decision to discontinue legal proceedings over the custody of his daughter, Imade, clarifying that he sought joint custody not full custody throughout the case.
In a statement posted on his verified account on X, the award-winning singer addressed public reactions suggesting that either party had secured a court victory.
He dismissed such interpretations, stating that “nobody won, nobody lost,” and cautioned against celebratory narratives surrounding the matter.
Davido revealed that he chose to withdraw the case due to the emotional toll of the courtroom process. According to him, proceedings became particularly distressing when references were made to his late son during arguments. He described the moment as a “lowest blow,” indicating that it influenced his decision to step away from the dispute.
Reaffirming his commitment as a father, the singer maintained that his primary concern remains his daughter’s wellbeing. He added that Imade would grow up knowing he stood up for her and called for an end to public speculation, urging all parties to move on peacefully.
