The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed circulating rumors that a woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted in Ogijo had been arrested, emphasizing that the victim is safe and under professional care.
The controversy began on Sunday after TikToker Mirabel (@mirab351) posted a distressing video claiming she had been raped in her apartment. In the viral clip, she alleged that a stranger broke into her home while she was unconscious, assaulted her physically, and raped her. She also claimed to have received threatening messages and revealed that she had attempted suicide due to the trauma.
Initial reports mistakenly placed the incident in Lagos, prompting responses from Lagos authorities. However, further checks confirmed the assault occurred in Ogijo, Ogun State, bringing the case under the jurisdiction of the Ogun State Police Command.
Following the viral video, social media users began claiming that Mirabel had been arrested, with some suggesting she might have fabricated the story. The Ogun State Police quickly addressed these rumors.
In a statement, spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi clarified that Mirabel voluntarily presented herself at the Ibafo Police Division on Wednesday, February 18, to file a formal complaint. She was subsequently transferred to the Ogijo Division, where it was determined she was not in a stable condition to provide full details of the incident.
“She was immediately taken for a comprehensive medical check-up, and her health is being closely monitored, as her wellbeing remains paramount. At no time was the victim arrested,” the statement said.
DSP Babaseyi urged the public to rely on verified information and stated, “The Police are handling the matter professionally and urge the public to verify information through official channels before dissemination.”
Authorities continue to investigate the case, emphasizing the victim’s safety and the importance of accurate reporting.
