Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been denied bail after his arraignment at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, over criminal charges including assault and theft.
According to a report by PUNCHONLINE, the arraignment took place on Monday, according to Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi, who confirmed that Portable was formally remanded in custody.
The singer’s arrest follows a viral video that emerged on Sunday, showing him shirtless, handcuffed, and tearfully pleading while seated on a couch in what appeared to be a police holding area.
Portable’s alleged offenses involve accusations of assault against actress and skit maker Omobolarinde Akinyanju, also known as Ashabi Simple, one of his baby mamas and mother of two of his children.
Court proceedings reported by Vanguard revealed that the prosecution alleged Portable attacked Ashabi alongside some police officers and other individuals at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo on New Year’s Day. Other alleged victims include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, valued at ₦12 million, registered to Ileyemi Damilola and associated with car dealer Wally Dex Auto.
During the proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was absent from court. Police further alleged that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing official duties.
The presiding judge denied bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer, and ruled that the officer must be present before any decision on bail could be made. Portable has been remanded in custody, with a fresh bail hearing scheduled for January 19.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a separate viral video allegedly showing the singer being assaulted while in custody.
