Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a 24-year-old man, Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, popularly known as “Easy-Money,” over alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency during his birthday celebration in Enugu State.
Ikechukwu, a palm kernel dealer, was reportedly arrested by officers from the EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Directorate after a video of his birthday party surfaced online. In the viral clip circulating on social media, the suspect was seen recording himself while allegedly spraying and mishandling naira notes inside a hotel room during the celebration.
According to the commission, the act violates Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the Nigerian currency.
The EFCC said the arrest followed actionable intelligence gathered from the viral footage.
“Upon receipt of the intelligence, a preliminary investigation was conducted, and the identity and address of the suspect were identified,” the commission stated.
Operatives subsequently arrested Ikechukwu on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his residence around Timber Market in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State.
During the operation, officials recovered ₦81,700, suspected to be part of the money allegedly mutilated during the birthday celebration.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the commission added.
The arrest comes amid increasing enforcement actions by the EFCC against individuals accused of abusing the naira. In February, Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano convicted Kannywood actress Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha, sentencing her to six months’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦200,000 fine for mutilating the Nigerian currency.
