President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained that he chose to observe his 74th birthday in a low-key manner due to the prevailing mood in Nigeria.
In a birthday message to Nigerians on Saturday, the President said the occasion reminded him of the economic and social challenges citizens have faced since the introduction of his administration’s reforms.
Tinubu expressed appreciation for the support and sacrifices of Nigerians, noting that the country was beginning to see signs of progress despite ongoing difficulties.
“Consistent with my tradition of marking my birthday in line with the mood of the nation, I resolved to observe this year’s birthday in a low-key manner,” the President said.
He added that although the country had experienced hardships since the implementation of key reforms, the sacrifices being made by citizens were not in vain.
“As I mark this special day, I am reminded of the challenges we’ve faced since we initiated our reforms. I’m glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain, as we can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
The President also referenced the impact of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, describing it as a temporary setback affecting global economic conditions.
Tinubu thanked Nigerians for their prayers, goodwill messages, and expressions of support, describing them as a source of encouragement for his administration.
“I want to take this moment to thank Nigerians for their messages, show of love and prayers on the occasion of my 74th birthday. I thank all our citizens for their patriotism, solidarity and support for our administration,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their goodwill messages.
Tinubu said the progress recorded by his administration was the result of collective efforts by Nigerians, his cabinet members, and the Renewed Hope team.
“The credit for the positive outcomes we have achieved does not belong solely to me, our Renewed Hope team, or our government. We achieved the gains together,” he stated.
As his administration approaches its third anniversary, the President expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges.
“As we march towards the third anniversary of our administration, it is my deepest conviction that we shall succeed in building a brighter future for our citizens and future generations,” he added.
Meanwhile, Vice President Shettima, in his birthday message, praised Tinubu’s leadership, saying the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda had continued to reposition the country toward sustainable prosperity.
Shettima said Nigeria had recorded notable economic progress under the President’s leadership, citing improvements in economic indicators and increased investor confidence.
He prayed for continued strength, wisdom, and good health for the President as he continues to lead the country.
In a separate message, the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, expressed pride in her husband and offered prayers for his health and success in steering the country toward greater prosperity.
“To God be all the glory for the gift of life and yet another birthday. I celebrate you and pray that God grants you divine health, strength, joy and peace as you continue to lead Nigeria,” she wrote.
