Saudi Arabian authorities have announced that the crescent moon marking the beginning of Shawwal, and the end of Ramadan 1447 AH, was not sighted today, confirming that Ramadan will conclude with a full 30 days of fasting.
The statement from the authorities noted that as a result of the unsighted moon, Eid AlFitr will be celebrated on Friday across the Kingdom.
Under traditional Islamic practice, the sighting of the Shawwal crescent determines the end of Ramadan. If the crescent is not witnessed on the 29th night, the holy month automatically completes 30 days before Eid begins.
