Veteran actor Pete Edochie has decried the worsening electricity situation in Nigeria, revealing that he spends ₦40,000 daily to power his home.
In an interview with African Independent Television (AIT), the 78-year-old actor lamented the crippling effects of erratic power supply on Nigerians.
Edochie broke down his daily energy expenses, stating he spends ₦10,000 on electricity units, ₦20,000 on diesel for his generator, and ₦10,000 on petrol for a smaller generator. “I spend about ₦10,000 every day buying electricity units. Then I spend ₦20,000 on diesel to power the generator and another ₦10,000 on petrol for a smaller generator. That brings the total to ₦40,000 daily just to provide electricity in my house,” he explained.
This expenditure translates to an eye-watering ₦1.2 million per month, highlighting the escalating energy costs in the country.
Edochie also criticized the government, saying, “It disturbs me a lot because I’m not just working for light. Then I listen to people who are only interested in getting into politics and enjoying power. Nobody seems to be bothered about what’s happening to the common man.”
